Virginia Trucking Insurance · Local to Long-Haul

Trucking & Transportation Insurance for Virginia Businesses

Coverage built around your drivers, your freight, and the agreements you run under.

Same Truck Count, Very Different Policy

What you haul, where you run, who is driving, what your losses look like, and what your contracts require all change the coverage and the cost. Two trucking companies with identical fleets can price out nowhere near each other.

Meridian works with owner-operators and fleets, including dump truck, ready-mix, heavy-haul, freight, and delivery operations. We look past the truck schedule to the drivers, loads, operating territory, contracts, and stated values that actually shape the risk, and we tell you what needs to change when you add a power unit, sign a new shipper contract, or start running outside your usual radius.

Trucking Insurance Coverages for Virginia Fleets

Auto Liability & Physical Damage

Can cover liability for covered accidents and damage to your own tractors and trailers. We review stated values, deductibles, and how the fleet is actually used.

Motor Truck Cargo

Can cover a motor carrier’s liability for covered loss or damage to customers’ freight. We review the commodities you haul, typical load values, contract requirements, and important exclusions.

Trailer Interchange

Can cover trailers in your care under an interchange agreement. Whether it applies depends on your agreements and how the equipment is used.

Warehouse Legal Liability

Can cover a warehouse operator’s legal liability for customers’ property in its care, custody, or control, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. We review the commodities stored, values, contracts, and the operation itself.

Workers' Compensation

Can provide benefits for covered work-related injuries and occupational illnesses. We review classifications, payroll estimates, premium audits, and, for experience-rated motor carriers, the MOD and the loss history behind it.

Umbrella & Excess Liability

Can provide additional limits above auto liability and other underlying policies, often driven by shipper or broker requirements.

Coverage descriptions on this page are general. What is actually covered depends on underwriting and the terms of the policy that is issued.

Safety and loss-control materials are available through carriers and Keystone for clients who want them. Your safety program stays yours. We help you find resources for it.

Fleets and Owner-Operators We Work With

  • For-Hire Owner-Operators
  • Regional Motor Carriers
  • Long-Haul Motor Carriers
  • Intermodal Motor Carriers
  • Dump Truck, Ready-Mix & Heavy-Haul Operations
  • Box Truck, Delivery & Final-Mile Fleets

Freight brokers and logistics businesses have different exposures, including their own liability for how a motor carrier is selected. Meridian evaluates that role and the coverage appropriate to those responsibilities.
Contractors hauling their own materials are usually handled on the construction side. See our construction insurance page.

Claims Advocacy When You Need It

The first hours after a significant trucking loss matter. Statements, photographs, reports, and other early claim facts can shape what happens next. On significant claims, Meridian can help with first notice, stay in contact with the adjuster, and escalate when a claim stalls or a coverage, liability, or claim decision raises questions. As an independently owned Keystone Network Partner, we can also bring in additional specialist resources when a situation calls for them. You have Meridian involved in the claim, not just a call-center handoff.

Trucking Insurance FAQs

Do you work with single-truck owner-operators?

Yes. Meridian works with owner-operators, growing fleets, and larger transportation businesses. Available markets depend on the operation, vehicles, drivers, loss history, and underwriting requirements.

Can you insure a new authority?

Tell us about the operation. What is available for a new authority depends on driver experience, equipment, what you are hauling, and what the insurance markets are writing at the time. We will tell you what is realistic rather than guess at it.

Can you handle our federal filings?

Tell us which filings your operation requires and we will confirm what we can coordinate with the insurance carrier once coverage is placed. For intermodal operations, Meridian can also coordinate UIIA-related insurance filings where applicable.

My renewal came back higher and nothing changed. What happened?

It is worth reviewing. Rate changes can come from several directions, including loss history moving into or out of the rating period, changes in stated values, the driver list, or a classification that no longer matches the operation. Send us the renewal and we will look at what moved.

Let's Look at Your Fleet

Tell us what you run and what you haul. We will tell you what we need and what we see in your current cargo limits, stated values, and contract requirements.
