Construction Insurance for Virginia Contractors

Coverage built around how the work actually runs, from the jobsite to the contracts you sign.

Your Coverage Was Built for Last Year's Operation

Payroll shifts. Equipment comes and goes.

A new contract adds insurance requirements your current policy may not satisfy, and nobody finds out until a certificate gets rejected or an audit lands.

Meridian works with heavy civil, paving, underground utility, site-development, and concrete contractors throughout Virginia. We review coverage against the way the business actually operates, with attention to insurance requirements, additional insured provisions, completed operations, equipment values, premium audits, and loss history.

Construction Insurance & Bonding for Virginia Contractors

General Liability

Can cover certain third-party claims involving bodily injury, property damage, or personal and advertising injury. For contractors, operations, completed operations, additional insured requirements, and significant exclusions get particular attention.

Workers' Compensation

Can provide benefits for covered work-related injuries and occupational illnesses. We review classifications, payroll estimates, premium audits, and, for experience-rated contractors, the MOD and the loss history behind it.

Commercial Auto

Can cover liability and physical damage for vehicles used in the business. We review drivers, operating territory, and hired or non-owned exposures. Fleets and trucking operations are handled on our trucking insurance page.

Contractors' Equipment

Can cover equipment, tools, and mobile property on jobsites, in transit, and in storage, written on an inland marine form. Rented and leased equipment may be subject to separate limits or coverage provisions, so we review those against your rental contracts.

Builders Risk

Can cover a project under construction. We place it around the scope, schedule, and contract requirements of the job, including how soft costs and any existing structure are handled.

Umbrella & Excess Liability

Can provide additional limits above the underlying policies, often driven by what your contracts require.

Surety Bonding

Bid, performance, and payment bonds for qualified contractors pursuing public and private work. Bond availability and capacity depend on underwriting and approval.

Coverage descriptions on this page are general. What is actually covered depends on underwriting and the terms of the policy that is issued.

Construction Insurance FAQs

Can you help us establish a bonding program?

Yes, for qualified contractors. Surety underwriting generally turns on financials, experience, and the work being pursued, and requirements vary by surety. The starting point is a conversation about what you are bidding. Bond availability and capacity depend on underwriting and approval.

My contract requires additional insured and primary and non-contributory. Can you check my policy?

Send us the contract language and your current policy and we will review them with you, point out where the requirements and your coverage appear to line up, and flag what needs to go back to the carrier. Coverage ultimately depends on the policy terms, conditions and endorsements that apply.

My premium audit came back higher than expected. Can you help?

Yes. We help contractors work through premium-audit questions, including classification and payroll issues, and raise them with the carrier and, where applicable, the appropriate rating organization or bureau. Whether a classification or audit result changes is ultimately determined by the applicable carrier or rating authority.

Do you only work with large contractors?

No. Meridian works with contractors across a range of sizes throughout Virginia. Available markets depend on the work, payroll, loss history, and underwriting requirements.
